Until now I didn't know the French were in the mobile phone business. When I think of France I think of wine and cheese, but not technology. They have just advanced to the business-class for the first time, before they were already successful the pre-paid league. I must say their concept, presented through the Alcatel One Touch 700, is rather promising and in my opinion has a future.
The French have consequently concentrated on optimizing many technical features when designing the Alcatel One Touch 700, at the same time reducing weight and size.
One step of achieving a low weight was using a plastic case on the Alcatel One Touch 700 instead of an old metal one. The company decided to equip the Alcatel One Touch 700 with a Li-polymer battery, a powerful but lightweight energy source. Because of that the Alcatel One Touch 700 is one of the lightest mobiles on the market, with only 86 g.
Of course the Alcatel One Touch 700 has all the standard extras for a phone of its class, for example organizer, individually programmable soft-key, SMS text-input assistance and a clearly readable display. The Alcatel One Touch 700 even has a 32 MB memory-chip, making the Alcatel One Touch 700 a mobile databank and therefore allowing the user great flexibility; a big advantage. The address book of the Alcatel One Touch 700 has room for 500 numbers and up to 20 spaces for addresses, fax, e-mail, birthday etc.
Once you get used to cursor-key in the middle it won't be long until you are comfortable with the menu of the Alcatel One Touch 700. Unlike other mobile phone models the Alcatel One Touch 700 doesn't offer an infrared-interface, a mute-function for the microphone and a conference-call option.
Although the Alcatel One Touch 700 has a W@P-browser, the configuration of its settings is not described in the instructions manual. The manual in general is only moderately helpful and might be a problem when operating the Alcatel One Touch 700.
Despite of that I think the French have hit a big success with the Alcatel One Touch 700. Due to the huge memory capacity of the Alcatel One Touch 700 having an organizer becomes unnecessary. This is especially important to me, because I’m traveling a lot, need the data almost daily for work and don't want to carry several devices around with me. The other mobiles on the market that combine phone and organizer are just too big for me. That's why I personally recommend the Alcatel One Touch 700.
