One thing was clear: it had to be a UMTS-mobile. The Siemens U10 convinced me in the shop.
The monstrous Siemens U10 almost weighs 200 g and has mega-dimensions of 154 x 53 x 29 mm. The Siemens U10 surely is not all too convincing in regard to its optics.
Since I am a freelancer, I am in desperate need of a mobile phone which can also be used as a mobile office. The technical equipment of the Siemens U10 offers exactly this precise all-around performance. Next to compact organizer functions of the Siemens U10, such as e-mail-client, the Siemens U10 as well offers various voice-modules: voice-command, voice-dialing and hands-free speaking system. Thus I can even make calls and arrange my organizer with the Siemens U10 during long drives in the car.
The hp-performance of the Siemens U10 was a motive indeed for buying the Siemens U10. Connected with the UMTS-network, the Siemens U10 reaches a data-transferring rate of up to 384 kb/s. In my case this is the obvious reason for using the Siemens U10 as modem - it makes me more flexible and mobile in my job. In the TriBand GMS-network the Siemens U10 can even resort to GPRS. Due to its data-cable and bluetooth the Siemens U10 has further contactors for obtaining electronic information.
The multimedia functions of the Siemens U10 offer extras, such as taking pictures and recording videos. U can record short video-sequences with the Siemens U10, of course they can as well be played-back. The built-in camera of the Siemens U10 can be rotated in any direction. The camera of the Siemens U 10 has a resolution of 176 x 220 Pixel, the video modus has a resolution of 174 x 144 Pixel. The colour-display of the Siemens U10 can show 4.096 different colours. A deficit of the Siemens U10 in its multimedia performance: despite of UMTS, the Siemens U10 can not transmit video calls.
A fault I overlooked when purchasing the Siemens U10 is the menu structure of the Siemens U10. Sadly the menu is kept in a Motorola-style. The American kind of menu structure is quite different and something u need to get used to: the main menu of the Siemens U10 is displayed by nine icons, which are all arranged in a square form. However the single icons of the Siemens U10 can only be chosen with quite some effort, via the softkeys beneath the screen of the Siemens U10.
Regrettably I can't report anything positive on the battery performance of the Siemens U10 either. The power supply of the Siemens U10 lasts for about 2,5 hours. Not too much power either in the UMTS-transfer of the Siemens U10. The supply is already entirely exhausted after only 55 minutes. According to the assistant in the shop the Siemens U10 has a stand-by time of 100 hours, weak! Even weaker: I only experienced a sad 60-70 hours of stand-by mode with the Siemens U10 in real life.
Speaking quite frank, I am not really satisfied with the purchase of the Siemens U10. Wouldn't I be obliged to use a UMTS-mobile, such as the Siemens U10, due to my job, I'd still wait a while before buying a UMTS-mobile. Time will bring some improvements for the overall performance of UMTS-mobiles.
