Test report and technical data Palm Tunsten W
Palm Tunsten W - The notebook that can be carried in your pocket!!!
Pros of Palm Tunsten W: The latest PDA technique, great design
Cons of Palm Tunsten W: Keypad
April 2003 - the new Palm will hit the market! So get happy, everyone! Palm Tunsten W can connect wirelessly to the net via any W-LAN hotspot; it's the third wireless device of Palm’s high end PDA series.
Palm Tunsten W is perfect for todays businessman. Carry your most important MS documents with you wherever you go - and that's not carrying a bulky notebook.
Unfortunately, Palm Tunsten W's keypad is rather small! Typing like on a keyboard will not be possible; still one gets used to the keypad quickly. Palm Tunsten W also features the navigation key Palm is famous for. Thus, you won't have to get out the pen for every single entry.
The dimensions of Palm Tunsten W differ from its predecessors: It measures 122 x 78 x 17 mm. The transreflective TFT screen of Palm Tunsten W has got a high resolution of 320 x 320 pixels and features 65,536 colors - so nice to look at! Additional, Palm Tunsten W only weighs 178 g; so it's no burden to carry it.
Palm Tunsten W definitely beats all other Palm OS based PDAs! It is the first device ever to work with an Xscale processor (400 MHz) by Intel. Furthermore, Palm Tunsten W provides 64 MB RAM (32 MB are used by the memory) and 16 MB ROM. Unfortunately, one cannot make use of all 64 MB RAM, since pre-installed features use up about 13 MB. Still, Palm Tunsten W is here the leading device of its range. There is a large capacity for programs or MS documents. If one needs even more memory, data downloaded onto Palm Tunsten W via USB or infra red can be stored on a SD/MMD card.
Palm Tunsten W also has got several entertainment features, such as a video and an MP3 player and a Kinoma producer that makes MPEG4 sequences apt for Palm Tunsten W.
The operating system of Palm Tunsten W is PalmOS 5.2.1. I was surprised by the high processing speed Palm Tunsten W is capable of!
Palm Tunsten W is the first palm ever to feature a hardware keypad and a W-LAN module. Obviously, Palm Tunsten W also features lots of W-LAN applications, like VersaMail, network sync, VPN client, W@P browser, proxy server and more. Adding to this are security features, such as PPTP and ESS.
Palm Tunsten W combines a great design with a perfect performance.
