There came the day when I had enough. Always trouble with my old mobile, either the display went crazy or it just died and switched itself off. There was no other way, I had to go and look for a new one.
Oh dear! I didn't know a thing about mobile phones. What separates the good ones from the junk, the ones that are all show? So I went to several shops and looked at many models from Siemens, Sagem, Nokia etc....and Alcatel.
All the older models from Alcatel that I had seen were bulky not exactly pretty. But not the Alcatel One Touch 501! The Alcatel One Touch 501 immediately caught my eye. The Alcatel One Touch 501 had a great design, was small, silvery-glittering and had a cute little joystick for navigating through the menu. And the Alcatel One Touch 501 wasn't heavy at all.
I had made list of which features my new companion had to have. Important was:
- long standby time (no constant charging anymore)
- text-input assistance T9 (to finally write fast)
- good hands-free function
- a W@P-browser would be nice
- a memory-function
- it should be small and lightweight
- vibratory alarm
- and last but not least the design
You can't believe how happy I was when I finally saw all my wishes combined in on mobile phone, the Alcatel One Touch 501.
Let me tell you about my good experiences with the Alcatel One Touch 501 until now:
The standby time of the Alcatel One Touch 501 is 7 days (approx. 168 hours), even though I’m constantly SMS-ing and talking on the phone about one hour every day. This means I’m charging the Alcatel One Touch 501 for example Friday night and have to put it back on the charger not earlier than next Friday. And the Alcatel One Touch 501 is not even empty then.
I really like the instructions manual of the Alcatel One Touch 501, very easy to understand, clearly structured and especially helpful for starters and inexperienced users.
The small size of the Alcatel One Touch 501 is very comfortable, being just 10 cm long (11,7 cm with antenna). And believe me, the Alcatel One Touch 501 weighs almost nothing (although I can't tell you the exact weight now).
About the menu of the Alcatel One Touch 501:
One press on the <OK> key (or the joystick) and you're in the menu, consisting of following points:
- Phone book
- Organizer
- SMS
- Individual settings, like automatic call-back, mailbox and call-diversion etc.
- Calculator and currency-converter
- Audio, for example key and ringer tones, sound volume, vibratory alarm
- Memo-function (recording own information)
- Internet access (only W@P-compatible sites)
To turn the Alcatel One Touch 501 on or off you only have to press the red 'hang up'-key. Important: the keypad-lock of the Alcatel One Touch 501. To activate or deactivate it you have to press the <C> key longer. Setting one-touch dialing is also possible with the Alcatel One Touch 501. Only the <1> is preset to the mailbox. Noticeable about the Alcatel One Touch 501 is the lengthy key on the left side of the phone. It is for recording memos and other personal data.
Another amazing feature of the Alcatel One Touch 501 is the voice control. If the name and number are already saved in the phone book you can dial a number simply by saying the name, without typing and waiting. Especially helpful when driving!!
Here is my summary of 6 months spent with the Alcatel One Touch 501: a great mobile phone that I can recommend unconditionally.
