Test report and technical data Nokia 6220
Bring it on, Nokia 6220!
Plus of the Nokia 6220: TriBand phone, integrated DigiCam, xHTML- and W@p-browser, Video-MMS, color display, presence function
Minus of the Nokia 6220: infirm keypad, no network area yet for the 'presence'-function
The Nokia 6220 is one of the all-rounders of the Nokia models, well, at least it should be! However it's anything else than that and I feel obliged to warn as many people as I can from buying it. Imagine, there's a mobile phone you can't wait to get a hold off and then it turns out the thing will be a complete letdown. Neither can the Nokia 6220 function the way it should, nor does it live up to any kind of Nokia performance, which is said to be faultless. The Nokia 6220 is a fully developed mobile that can however not be launched, since it offers features, that can not be used yet since the networks aren't able to fulfill with the innovation yet.
It seems to be quite evident, that I am deeply disappointed of the Nokia 6620, something like that shouldn't happen among professionals.
At first I was truly taken by the many multimedia functions and the integrated DigiCam of the Nokia 6220. However I guess that's standard for any kind of up-to-date mobile. Nokia should learn the sentence 'Sometimes less is more' by heart!
What's the benefit of a special functions like the 'presence-function' of the Nokia 6220, if the network can't cope with that function yet since it's simply too progressive? The Nokia 6220 needs precise frequencies, the so called 'EDGE' frequencies, and also a higher level to send and receive messages.
Developing mobiles with yet non-functioning options is just a complete scam in my eyes, although it's not Nokia's fault that it's genius 'Presence Function' doesn't work yet. But then again they should just cooperate with the network servers and not launch a new mobile with features that can't be used yet.
Would the 'Presence Function' actually truly function, a most sophisticated businessman could bring his Nokia 6220 to a conference and tell his server via GPRS, that he wants to be either contacted via SMS or voice mail during the time he spends in the conference. The server would inform every other user of a Nokia 6220 of your decision and you could join the conference without being disturbed.
The Nokia 6220 would send other user messages according to his wish, in this case it might sound like this: "Have to listen to the babble of my boss for the next three hours, see you at seven o'clock!" That's the way it should be, dear Nokia 6220!
The typical Nokia-look isn't all too creative, don't expect anything revolutionary, it's classy and elegant. The Nokia 6220 is quadratic and its silver-colored keypad is quite infirm. The display of the Nokia 6220 glimmers in ice blue color and the covers of the Nokia 6220 are exchangeable.
The Nokia 6220 weighs slim 95 g and due to the DigiCam, the dimensions of the Nokia 6220 sum up to: 107 x 45 x 19 mm.
One thing still remains unclear to me, that would be why Nokia didn't think of protecting the lenses of the camera with a flap.
Then again a plus for the Nokia 6220, its clearly outlined menu, really user-friendly!
I hope Nokia did learn from that mistake and check the networks before they develop some kind of new function next time. Users will just get disappointed.
