Test report and technical data Siemens A55
Siemens A55 - the compact beginner
Positive about the Siemens A55: price, polyphonic ringer tones, integrated hands-free system, SMS functions, memory capacity, T9-software, WAP-browser
Negative about the Siemens A55: no java-application, no voice-dialling, no GPRS, no IrDA-interface
Hey people,
the Siemens A55: Finally a Siemens-mobile, which convinces with its technology and high quality performance, characteristics of the German manufacturer. During the 3. GSM World Congress in Cannes did Siemens not only present the Siemens SX1, but also the simpler beginner mobile Siemens A55. A great success!
The Siemens A55 only weighs 84 g and fits ideally into trouser pockets. 103 x 46 x 22 mm packed in an egg-shaped body reflect the typical Siemens design. Against wide spread notion, the Siemens A55 would look like a dinosaur-bone, I really do believe, that the design of the Siemens A55 is ribald and bawdy - a great processing of the Siemens A55.
Only the back cover of the Siemens A55 could use some more colouring, the groan of the keys of the Siemens A55 does not bother me though.
It is to be said, that the Siemens A55 will be available in shops beginning of March. The standard colour of the Siemens S55 will be Biscaya, however there will be 12 exchangeable covers. Individualists and trendsetters will be quite happy about that.
The manufacturer of the Siemens A55 wanted to do without any "exotic functions", on purpose of course.
That's why the Siemens A55 lacks e.g. a camera and the possibility of sending and receiving MMS.
The display of the Siemens A55 is rather small, but therefore the background illumination is handled very well. The screen of the Siemens A55 with a resolution of 101 x 64 Pixel is ideal for reading messages.
Speaking of SMS functions of the Siemens A55, there's a lot more to be said about that. Not only is it possible to send linked messages with the Siemens A55 which can contain up to 760 characters, but also is the Siemens A55 equipped with the T9-software. Sending messages to an entire predefined group is of course as well possible. These are really great features, especially in regard to the comparable low price of the Siemens A55.
Comfort is what counts in the Siemens A55, that's why u can as well find a loudspeaker in the Siemens A55. I prefer smaller comfort, as long as it is well functioning in comparison to many bits and pieces.
The Siemens A55 is a DualBand mobile for GSM 900 and 1800, thus u can use the Siemens A55 everywhere, except for the American network.
Thanks to an integrated WAP-browser u can as well surf in the mobile net with the Siemens A55. There are many logos, animations and ringer tones available, specially designed for the Siemens A55, which can all be downloaded from the net. Of course these downloads as well feature numerous polyphonic ringter tones.
Incoming phone calls can be configurated individually due to a feature called "Calling Faces". The point of this "Calling Faces" is, that each and every phone book entry can be assigned with a special preinstalled picture. Additional 50 telephone book entries can be saved on the Siemens A55.
Other practical features of the Siemens A55 are an integrated calculator and an alarm clock.
The battery of the Siemens A55 is supposed to have a stand-by time of 250 hours. The talk time of the Siemens A55 adds up to 5 hours.
I consider the reception performance of the Siemens A55 as satisfying indeed, only the sound quality of the Siemens A55 is objectionable. Every voice sounds at least one octavos deeper than it really is and in addition to that the sound is totally blurred. Can really sound funny, believe me!
So, go, get out there and get the Siemens A55! There's nothing to lose! Have fun with the Siemens A55!
