Test report and technical data Siemens C28
The Siemens C28 - Lacking greater difference to its predecessor, still the quality-minimalist among mobile phones
Advantages: robustness, good performance, cheapness
Disadvantages: Not very up-to-date with technology
By now it has become quite common that with the release of a new mobile phone the market is flooded with all kinds of reviews on the new models. From one day to another the predecessors are to be forgotten, regardless of their quality and performance. In order to work against this phenomenon I shall be a bit of a nostagist for today and will write a review on the elderly, however felicitous, my former Siemens S28.
Siemens gave the C-seris a second shot by developping the Siemens C28, its outcome is satisfactory indeed. This modification of the Siemens S28 can however not be perceived with the eye only, one has to get into the technical details of the Siemens S28 to realize the metamorphosis.
The Siemens C28 turns out to be a bit smaller than its 'big bro', since its size is of 110x45x20mm only. The weight of the Siemens C28 is different as well when compared to its predecessor, since it is a bit heavier with its 150g. The Siemens S28 is still equipped with an antenna, apparently the technology was not that up-to-date yet that an antenna could have been put aside. The consequence of that is, that an antenna with a length of 25 mm still adds up to the dimensions of the Siemens C28. This fact however might give quite some pleasure to all those of you who greatly fear the radiation of mobile phones, since the radiation is said to be less harmful if a mobile phone possesses a non-integrated antenna.
The case of the Siemens C28 can not be changed by buying clip on covers and again the Siemens C28 is available in one colour only, dark-green/olive-green.
The screen of the Siemens C28 has dimensionss of 30x20mm and you can find the three most important keys for operating the menu of the Siemens C28 right beneath the screen. Further there can be found a special key to pick and hang up a phone call and the ommon digit-keys, which are in white colour and their symbols are adjusted in black.
In comparison to other more modern mobile phones the Siemens 38 can not triumph with its modest design, but in regard to the launching date of the Siemens C28 nothing can be said against it design, its a product of its time...
Operating the Siemens C28 is more than easy since the menu outline is well structured and clearly arranged. Ease of use is definitely one of the greater advantages of the Siemens C28, which is surely a consequence of the lack of many features in the Siemens C28. These could have very well been the cause of confusion and bewilderment.
Thus, one is not obliged to read the manual carefully before operating the Siemens C28, unless one wants to gain insight to the Siemens C28 from a very professional side.
In technical matters of the Siemens C28 no greater differences to its predecessor can be found, I am serious! This is of course quite saddening, Siemens could have very well equipped the Siemens C28 with some more features or at least a better technical performance could have been made possible.
The battery performance of the Dual Band Siemens C28 is good enough for a standby time of up to 120 hours and a talk time of about three hours. Fully charging the battery has a duration of about four hors. Nothing to laugh here, remember, the Siemens C28 is OLD!
The telephone book of the Siemens C28 holds up to 100 entries, nine of these entries can be accessed by a direct-dialling key. Further one can save ten messages on the Siemens C28, unfortunately, as might already be assumed, the Siemens C28 is not capable of the T9 predictive text software.
There are 20 ringer tones installed on the Siemens C28, in addition to that one still has the possibility of composing his/her own melodies, which can later be saved on the Siemens C28. The keypad tones of the Siemens C28 are as well to be chosen individually.
More up-to-date features, such as vibratory alert, organizer, w@p-function are of course not included in the Siemens C28. Despite of that the functions, which the Siemens C28 in the end does possess, are of good quality and their performance does very well, all that making the Siemens C28 easy to be used and a mobile phone one can always rely on. Still, some of the really handy features can not be overlooked and it is sad indeed that the Siemens C28 even misses a calendar, a calculator, some games and further average features.
Following the example of its 'big brother', the Siemens C28 howsoever convinces with its reception performance, a pro that is very often seen with Siemens mobile phones. This performance makes one forget some of the deficiencies of the Siemens C28 easily. Never has the transmission of data failed due to the Siemens C28, if there was something to blame, it was the network.
The network access the Siemens C28 provides is as satisfactory as the reception accomplishments of the Siemens C28. The sound is clean and even in difficult situations the Siemens C28 offers a well tolerable sound quality.
While using the Siemens C28 I was contiunously satisfied with its performance. Today I do own another mobile phone since I just lacked some newer technical achievements in the Siemens C28.
However this was the only reason for neglecting the Siemens C28 and today I may even say, that the technical features, covered by my new mobile phones, are the only difference that I can make out in comparison to the Siemens C28. That's why I can strongly recommend the Siemens C28 to all those people out there, who are seeking for a robust mobile phone one can always rely on and that is easy to be operated.
Due to the antiqueness of the Siemens C28 the price of the Siemens C28 is very, very low, its quality in return very high.
The Siemens C28 is well suitable for all mobile phone newcomers or as well for those people who would merely want to make phone calls with the Siemens C28.
