Test report and technical data Siemens E10D
Advantages: robust, very cheap, easy access
Disadvantages: out-of-date technical performance
Well, one fine day my former mobile phone was sort of screwed and I was forced to buy a new phone. However that was a bit of a challenge for me since I was completely broke at that time. So I asked several of my friends if anybody might have a spare mobile phone that I could use. They helped me quite fast by giving me the Siemens E10D! When I first saw the Siemens E10D I was absolutely shocked...what an ugly cudgel, I thought, but I did not have another chance than to accept the offer.
I really had quiet a good time with the Siemens E10D and I have to admit, that I miss its simple technical features, which are not to be topped...
The Siemens E10D sure does not impress anyone with its design but there definitely are several surprising aspects about the Siemens E10D, which will never be expected when just looking at the Siemens E10D.
In comparison to more up-to-date mobile phones the Siemens can not be described as small and handy at all, the precise dimensions of 17x5,5x1,5 cm sure do the rest. The height of the Siemens E10D already covers the length of the antenna of the Siemens E10D and the Siemens E10D is acutally not as broad as one would think since it still fits into smallish pocket. However you should watch out for the antenna when doing so, since it's easily affected by sudden moves!
You can only get the Siemens E10D in black colour and the screen of the Siemens E10D is of course extremly tiny when compared to more modern mobile phones. The screen merely covers four lines and only 16 characters fit on it! There's nothing else I can really complain about in regard to the yellowish-glowing screen, now it is rather surprising that the information given on the screen has quiet some similarity with the Siemens mobiles of our time. You can find information on the reception, the battery and there can be found symbols for missed calls and incoming messages in the lower line of the screen. A positive thing about the screen still is, that the screen of the Siemens E10D is very robust and not as fragile as many phones of our time, a plus of the Siemens E10D.
The keypad of the Siemens E10D is kept very simple, however the keypad consists of entire 20 keys, which is really striking. The reason for this is, that there are still many keys meant for one specific function only on the keypad, nowadays several functions are often activated by one key only. When you once know where the different keys are located on the keypad, operating the Siemens E10D shall be very easy.
I have never seen the instruction manual of the Siemens E10D and still I managed to operate the Siemens E10D without the slightest problem. I guess that is an advantage of the Siemens E10D indeed and says quite something about is ease of use. All in all it is quiet conspicuous how much the menu of the Siemens E10D and the menu of a modern Siemens mobile resemble one another. The Siemens E10D seems to be the mother of all Siemens mobile phones menus.
The technical data of the Siemens E10D is especially amusing, I guess I won't have to mention explicitly that no greater performance can be found with the Siemens E10D. However I have to be fair and say, that the Siemens E10D was quiet something during its time.
Let's get started with the lithium-ion-battery of the Siemens E10D! The battery survives a maximum of three days and it is remarkable how fast the battery is fully charged again, it will only take about two hours.
The telephone book of the Siemens E10D holds about 100 entries, the same amount as many other Siemens mobiles of our time still manage to save. Well, there can not be done much more than making phone calls and writing messages with the Siemens E10D. As might be expected, the Siemens E10D does not possess a T9 text construction software yet, one can save up to 15 messages on the Siemens E10D though, remarkalby this is a better memory function than many modern Siemens have!
Ringing tone geeks won't be happy with the Siemens E10D, one can only find six ringing melodies which all sound pretty similar. But hey, as long as the Siemens E10D rings in any kind of way it already does its part.
Games, vibratory alert, organizer, w@p-function and similar pleasantries are not to be thought about!
The Siemens E10D did well for my very basic needs, I was able to make phone calls, could be reached and was able to wirte messages, however more than that is not possible with the Siemens E10D.
The reception performance of the Siemens E10D is satisfying, the technology concerning the reception function seems to be already quite well developped with the Siemens E10D. If the antenna of the Siemens E10D is not damaged, as I managed to do, then the reception is really quite good. Athough it's even possible to make phone calls without an antenna, I can't recommend doing so, one is barely understood.
Sending messages with the Siemens E10D works without the slightest problem and the sound quality of the Siemens E10D was of profound grade, one could always be understood!
During my time with the Siemens E10D I already got pretty used to the antique Siemens E10D and without intending to, I caused more sensation in public with the Siemens E10D than many others do with luxurious phones.
I highly doubt that anyone of you just reading this review seriously thinks about getting the Siemens E10D, although it wouldn't cost you much anymore, but I have to mention again that living with the Siemens E10D for a while was funny indeed. In connection with some kind of leisure activity the Siemens E10D would do well!
Eventhough I was shocked at first when I saw the Siemens E10D, I have to admit, that it could have hit me much worse with other mobile phones than the Siemens E10D. There are still so many mobile phones, even on today's market, that do not perform as well as the Siemens E10D does.
Being mobile is just way more important than having a mobile phone full of gadgetries.
A funny thing, the Siemens E10D! An excursion into the technology of the last millennium easiliy comes true with the Siemens E10D.
