Test report and technical data Siemens S42
A Nokia needs to be in a cold sweat if the Siemens S42 shows up!
Advantage: deluxe-extravagant design, performance
Disadvantage: price
"Did you go completely bananas?", that was the first thing that came out of my mother's mouth, when my Siemens S42 was discovered at home. At first I tried to hide it from her which failed miserably, I guess.
Okay, okay, the Siemens S42 does cost quiet something but you always need to see this in regard to its value for money. Well, value for money is definitely granted in my opinion.
One sure does need quiet a reason to get a mobile phone such as the Siemens S42. Its looks would have already done in my case but I forced myself to check out its technical data before actually purchasing it since it does happen often that nice mobiles get at someone in consequence of a nice design.
The Siemens S42 is a very elegant, innovative phone, which can not be compared to other mobile phones, at least not its design. The body of the Siemens S42 is completely covered with silver metal, this metal is incredible durable so nobody needs to worry about possible damages of the cover, such as scratches. The dimensions of the Siemens S42 are 112x44x22 cm and with a weight of 100 g the Siemens S42 surely is very handy and comfortable to carry around. This is as well a result of an integrated antenna. The screen of the Siemens S42 gleams in a nice blue colour and in addition to that the screen of the Siemens S42 has a very high resolution and covers a size of six lines. The keypad of the Siemens S42 is not to be perceived in the initial state of the Siemens S42, since it is covered by a jump-up flap, which is as well in silver colour.
Operating the Siemens S42 is in the contrary to its design is kept as simple as possible in order to avoid complications. The Siemens S42 is equipped with the standard Siemens menu, which stands for ease of use. Its characteristics are a logically and clearly structured menu and simple guidance through the menu. Newcomers can always seek help in the user manual. The Siemens S42 sure has an individual design, but sure no individual menu! Operating the Siemens S42 is really, really cheap!!
The technology of the Siemens S42 is anything but cheap and simple! The Siemens S42 is no Dual Band phone as most other mobiles still are, no it's a Triple Band phone which functions around the globe! Even during a hiking trip in the Himalayas the Siemens S42 could be used!
The Siemens S42 is equipped with a vibration alert and its lithium-ion-battery has a stand-by time of amazing 360 hours or a talk time of six hours. The manufacturers must have been well aware of the fact that a mobile is not much of a use without a good battery!
The next striking attribute of the Siemens S42 is its w@p-browser. I do not only want to mention that one can find the w@p-browser, but its incredible performance. The Siemens S42 is equipped with HSCSD, which makes a transfer rate of up to 14,4 kbit/s possible. By bundling several channels, the Siemens S42 reaches a transmission rate that is hardly topped by a common modem at home. Impressing indeed, I guess your bill will be even more impressive if you make extensive use of this feature!
The distinctive organizer function of the Siemens S42 is very good, functions such as a planner, calendar, alarm clock, notebook, calculator and e-mail are included in the Siemens S42. Data can as well be transferred to other mobiles and PDA' via infrared.
Usual technical functions need to be explained as well. The telephone book of the Siemens S42 holds a thousand entries, many, many messages can be saved on the Siemens S42 and the T9 predictive text helps editing messages. The user has the choice between 42 ringer tones and if you don't like any of those melodies then you can still compose them yourself and save them on the Siemens S42.
The lack of an external antenna does not affect the reception performance of the Siemens S42 at all. The reception quality of the Siemens S42 is very reliable, no matter where you might be, an appropriate connection is granted!
The acoustics of the Siemens S42 are as good as they can be, a human being should not be able to hear any noises in the circuit that should not be there. Annoying beeping, hissing etc. have never been heard by my ears.
I hope that at least some of you might be able to understand why I did such a crazy thing as to buy me the Siemens S42 despite of its horrendous price. At least I don't seem to be the only one at home anymore that really likes the Siemens S42 ... my father asks my quiet often if he can use my Siemens 42 for a day... to my mom's horror!
The Siemens 42 is a genius among all mobile phones, that does not only look great but functions just as well as it looks!
