Test report and technical data Ericsson T65
You won't find a cheap and reliable mobile phone like the Ericsson T65 very often!
Plus of the Ericsson T65: good weight and size, great value for money
Minus of the Ericsson T65: not as flexible as needed
Probably many of you know that moment, when your old mobile lets you down and can't be repaired anymore. The search for a suitable replacement starts, and you run from one shop to the next to compare everything and get the best deal.
After a good deal of thought I decided to buy the Ericsson T65.
I wanted a small mobile that is easy to use and not too ugly.
About the exterior of the Ericsson T65:
The Ericsson T65 is small, robust, and well finished without any sharp edges or parts that could be disturbing or break off. Unfortunately the front case of the Ericsson T65 can’t be exchanged, which is annoying, because the display can easily be scratched if you aren't very careful.
The battery of the Ericsson T65 can't be removed either, because it's integrated in the Ericsson T65. But you won't need a second battery anyway, because the battery of the Ericsson T65 lasts around 5 days. The blinking light, which signals that the Ericsson T65 has a connection, will get on your nerves soon.
About the functions of the Ericsson T65:
In general the connection of the Ericsson T65 is good and you'll have a good reception even when abroad. The microphone of the Ericsson T65 is a bit sensitive, it picks up wind noise and you often hear a delayed echo. The option to change the sound volume of the Ericsson T65 would have been a nice feature, because sometimes you can barely hear the other person due to bad reception.
About the address book and the menu structure of the Ericsson T65:
The menu structure of the Ericsson T65 is clearly arranged and has a help-function, which can explain and clarify questions about the menu of the Ericsson T65. The address book of the Ericsson T65 has room for 300 numbers. It is easy to access, and only the address book of the phone will be shown, the numbers from the SIM-card have to be copied. Very practical about the Ericsson T65 is the voice dialing feature for 40 numbers.
Since I don't use the SMS function of the Ericsson T65 a lot the only thing that I noticed is the complicated menu, which you have to get used to. The Ericsson T65 has a text-input assistance that works properly.
The Ericsson T65 is equipped with GPRS and a WAP-browser, but mobile internet is just too expensive. The only connection from the Ericsson T65 to other devices is the cable; not ideal. The Ericsson T65 is missing an infrared-interface or the Bluetooth-function.
Other features of the Ericsson T65 worth mentioning:
The battery indicator of the Ericsson T65 is very precise and shows the remaining standby and talk time in hours. The automatic keypad-lock of the Ericsson T65, which is activated after a short time when the phone is not used, has saved me from several unintentional calls, but it can be deactivated if you prefer that.
Additional extras of the Ericsson T65 are games, calculator, stop clock, organizer, alarm clock and code memo.
My evaluation of the Ericsson T65:
The Ericsson T65 is an ideal mobile phone if your main focus is on making calls; you have a small, compact phone with a reliable quality. But if you want to use the Ericsson T65 for mobile surfing, you just haven't got the right mobile phone with the Ericsson T65, it simply lacks interfaces.
Nevertheless the Ericsson T65 is a high-quality mobile phone with very good value for money.
