Test report and technical data Sagem MC 940
Sagem MC 940 - a mobile for occasional users
Plus of the Sagem MC 940: Li-ion battery, small, light, handy
Minus of the Sagem MC 940: no MMS, keypad, software
Why the Sagem MC 940? I don't know; I got the Sagem MC 940 just by accident - from Santa Claus-, as if the Sagem MC 940 fell from the sky. But maybe it's just this: Santa Claus also has to save money.
The Sagem MC 940 is a nice piece of equipment, meaning:
The Sagem MC 940 fits into every pocket, make-up bag, catchall...and the Sagem MC 940 just feels good in your hand due to its size (spacey dimensions of the Sagem MC 940) and its weight, a featherweight indeed. Only the antenna of the Sagem MC 940 annoyed me: I screwed it off, and what do you know? The reception quality of the Sagem MC 940 didn't suffer. Fantastic!
Two of the keys on the keypad of the Sagem MC 940 are situated below the display; with them you are able to enter the function menu of the Sagem MC 940. For example scrolling through the phone book, reading SMS... The menu of the Sagem MC 940 is very well-structured and logically sorted, comprehensive even for laypersons like me. A look in the instructions manual of the Sagem MC 940 is not necessary. Unfortunately, it's not possible with the Sagem MC 940 to directly store numbers in the menu. You always have to access the address book first. I find that very complicated on the Sagem MC 940.
The Sagem MC 940 comes with a big choice of ringer tones. In case you are not satisfying with this choice, the Sagem MC 940 gives you the option to compose and store a number of melodies. Sending messages works quite quickly with the Sagem MC 940 (the T9 typing-aid, which is integrated in the Sagem MC 940, is very helpful).
You can store up to 20 messages in the memory of the Sagem MC 940, and another 15 in the SIM-card memory.
In addition to that the Sagem MC 940 comes with a hands-free function which I appreciate very much. In comparison to Nokia and Siemens it is working very well on the Sagem MC 940. If you don't want to be disturbed by the ringer tones of the Sagem MC 940 you can switch the vibratory alarm on. More features on the Sagem MC 940 are: alarm clock, calculator, currency calculator, date, time...
The Sagem MC 940 is furthermore equipped with a Li-ion battery, which is a real advantage over the models that are coming with a NiMH battery. Therefore you haven't got to be careful about the so-called 'memory effect' with the Sagem MC 940's battery. The Sagem MC 940 will last for a stand-by time of at least 160 hours and the talk time is around 3.5 hours.
Sending and receiving image messages as well as ringer tones from compatible mobiles doesn't pose a problem for the Sagem MC 940. The quality of voice and sound is acceptable, which means not outstanding. The reception quality of the Sagem MC 940 is satisfying as well.
All in all I find the Sagem MC 940 to be a mobile for people who mainly want to be reachable and don’t care much about the few tics the Sagem MC 940 comes with.
But if you use your mobile frequently, like me, the Sagem MC 940 is not to be recommended. The keys tend to get harder to press after some time. And the software of the Sagem MC 940 is very unstable. If the memory is full the Sagem MC 940 might just switch itself off or freeze. In my opinion you can expect things like that to work even in a low price mobile.
