Test report and technical data Sharp GX 10i
The Sharp GX 10i
Advantages of the Sharp GX 10i: many calling features, improved stand-by time
Disadvantages of the Sharp GX 10i: bad resolution despite of built-in camera
A Sharp: "I present you, ladies and gentlemen, under codename 'Vodafone', the only, the original, the best looking" - curtain opens: "Sharp GX 10i!!!!" Applause.... (The Sharp GX 10i appears, ashamed of its tiny antenna)
Something on the design of the Sharp GX 10i:
the Sharp GX 10i is an uncommon, yet original eye catcher. Under its fold-up flap, which can even be used as highly sensitive keypad, the Sharp GX 10i promises quite something. Unexpected feats as well as expected weaknesses...
Those will now show:
looking at the Sharp GX 10i from the outside, the Sharp GX 10i looks like a time bomb, well, at least when u look at the Sharp GX 10i for too long and at the wrong time of day. The anthracite digital display on the flap of the Sharp GX 10i incessantly shows a clock, that kinda deprives u of a "easy going feeling". As a matter of fact there is a digital camera, almost hidden, on the super even flap of the Sharp GX 10i. Once opening the flap of the Sharp GX 10i u will feel all at home in mobile phone-spheres. But clearly visible, in the spheres of the Sharp GX 10i: transparent keys, brilliantly striking your eyes, which can't be missed by any finger. Of course, the eight-way-navigation key of the Sharp GX 10i on the upper part of the keypad of the Sharp GX 10i.
Something on the digi cam of the Sharp GX 10i:
the digi cam of the Sharp GX 10i has a maximum resolution of 288 x 352 Pixel, what sounds like a lot, but isn't all too much. The resolution of the Sharp GX 10i sadly doesn't meet today's technical standard. In order to convince with its digi cam, the Sharp GX 10i still has some work to do, Japanese competitors would just be laughing about the digi cam of the Sharp GX 10i.
However in terms of its colour-display, the Sharp GX 10i does meet international standards. The screen has a very good resolution and is high in contrast, allowing the Sharp GX 10i to easily cope with Nokias and Siemens. Especially the number of colours displayed on the screen of the Sharp GX 10i breaks all records, all together 65.536 colours can be displayed on the Sharp GX 10i.
The display is an eye catcher indeed, not any different with the high-end pleasure for the ears: the sound quality of the Sharp GX 10i is comparable to the sound quality of a more recent walkman.
By the way, the Sharp GX 10i doesn't only have its "i" in contrast to the Sharp GX 10, but several other improvements: a better and especially easier navigation in the menu of the Sharp GX 10i gives u a nice cruise feeling and a far better stand-by time of 260 instead of 214 hours. Not to be forgotten, the Sharp GX 10i is a TriBand mobile now, something for all u globetrotters.
Aside from numerous less tested multimedia functions, there's something to be said on the calling comfort of the Sharp GX 10i: the Sharp GX 10i filters unwanted incoming calls and alerts u of VIP calls in a special ringer tone. Of course there are still some quick-dial keys to be found on the Sharp GX 10i. Thus, even the busy brokers on the Wall Street should be satisfied with the Sharp GX 10i, especially since operating the menu of the Sharp GX 10i is assisted by numerous graphics.
For people, who don't like typing with mobile phones, the Sharp GX 10i offers a T9-software and a hands-free speaking system, especially useful when driving. There is an automatic redial feature, however only 10 numbers can be additionally saved on the Sharp GX 10i. All in all, the Sharp GX 10i does disappoint us in terms of its calling feature, however the Sharp GX 10i does well in terms of multimedia features.
There is nothing positive to be reported on the data transfer performance of the Sharp GX 10i either, rather numerous negative aspects coming up right away. The Sharp GX 10i lacks HSCSD, HTML- and i-mode-browser. It is questionable indeed, why the Sharp GX 10i actually deserves its "i"! No bluetooth either. I did expect some more from the Sharp GX 10i. However u can find a modem in the Sharp GX 10i, but there isn't even a data cable integrated in the delivery of the Sharp GX 10i. The WAP-browser performance of the Sharp GX 10i is clearly limited, since it is merely the 1.x-Version.
Despite of all that, I still do recommend the Sharp GX 10i: the Sharp GX 10i does manage to averagely cope with its competitors, but that doesn't mean, that the Sharp GX 10i isn't suitable for u guys.
Ok, performance over, the Sharp GX 10i promises to do better in terms of its self-confidence and pulls off. The curtain instantly closes (lukewarm applause and the Sharp GX 10i stretches out its antenna in order to look out for potential users) ... Have fun!
